Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Dr. Buckley: I'm an internal medicine, pulmonary/critical care doctor at Henry Ford Health in Michigan. I grew up in the Midwest, went to medical school at Wayne State University, and completed my residency and fellowship at Indiana University. In my career, I've mostly been focused on medical education, including being a fellowship director and staying active with CHEST in terms of medical education.
What is your teaching philosophy for the board review course?
Dr. Buckley: My teaching philosophy is all about being flexible and adaptive to the audience. It depends upon who the learner is, where they're at, the content of what I’m trying to get across, and trying to do it in an efficient manner. That's what is most likely to help learners.
I encourage learners to focus on early preparation, listen to the course material, and do practice questions on what might be on the exams. But really, the optimal preparation is quite individualized, so I don't expect CHEST Board Review to be a one-size-fits-all course. It’s one component of many that can help clinicians prepare for their board examinations.
Can you share a fun fact about yourself or a favorite hobby?
Dr. Buckley: Something totally outside of my career and a hobby of mine is cars and automobiles. Lately, I've been getting totally engrossed with car restoration shows on television. My favorite is Iron Resurrection, which is out of a body shop and custom automobile company down in Texas. It’s fun for me to watch and get involved with, and I get end use of the skills of those metal fabricators and such.
Is there anything else you want to share?
Dr. Buckley: I encourage learners who want to know who we faculty members are to reach out to us. We’re all in the CHEST member directory, and if they have questions about who we are or what we're doing, we're all open to folks contacting us.
