Airway Clearance in Bronchiectasis
Originally aired: July 1, 2025
This webinar discusses the pathophysiology and management of bronchiectasis, focusing on the role of neutrophilic inflammation and the vicious cycle of mucus obstruction. The primary goals of airway clearance are to break this cycle, improve symptoms, reduce inflammation and exacerbations, and enhance quality of life.
Various airway clearance techniques are outlined, including devices like positive expiratory pressure and high-frequency chest wall oscillation, mucoactive agents such as hypertonic saline, and physiotherapy methods like postural drainage, autogenic drainage, active cycle breathing, chest percussion, and exercise.
