GET TO KNOW YOUR LEADERSHIP

Q&A With Sherri Katz, MD, FCCP

Sherri Katz, MD, FCCP

Sleep Medicine Network Vice-Chair
CHEST member since 2004

September 5, 2024

Where do you work?
Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Ottawa, Canada.

What are your research interests?
Respiratory aspects of pediatric neuromuscular disease, diagnosis and management of pediatric sleep-disordered breathing, home mechanical ventilation, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.

What led you to join your Network?
Through attendance at CHEST conferences, I encountered a group of like-minded, engaged health care providers interested in home-based mechanical ventilation and neuromuscular disease. I have learned and continue to learn so much from these colleagues and value their comradery, advice, collaboration, and friendship.

What achievements are you most proud of contributing to within your Network?
I am most proud of the growth of the Home-Based Mechanical Ventilation and Neuromuscular Disease Section, which almost doubled in size during the time I was Chair—more friends and colleagues are always welcome! In addition, this group has been an excellent advocate for our patients, as well as a source of support and information exchange in a time of many recalls and changes in equipment.

How has being in a Network benefited your career and your experience as a CHEST member?
I have been introduced to colleagues and friends involved in clinical education and research initiatives to improve care for our patients internationally. I look forward to continuing to connect with Network members at the CHEST conference each year, codeveloping content for the annual conference, and exploring potential research collaborations.

What are your hobbies?
Piano, cooking, and travel.

What is something you cannot live without (after family and friends)?
Traveling to explore new places and learn about new cultures.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with your Network peers?
I am looking forward to seeing everyone in person at the next CHEST Annual Meeting.
