Where do you work, and what is your current position?
Professor of Medicine and Director, Pulmonary Hypertension Program, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Cincinnati.
What are your clinical and/or research interests?
Pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary embolism, and education.
What led you to join your Interest Group and become a Steering Committee member?
I was drawn to join the WiCM Interest Group and later serve on the Steering Committee because I saw it as a unique opportunity to blend my passion for education with leadership. I wanted to enhance my skills while collaborating with like-minded professionals who are equally dedicated to transforming patient care on a broader scale. This role allows me to contribute ideas, drive meaningful initiatives, and, ultimately, make a tangible impact in our field.
What have you gained being involved in this Interest Group?
Being part of the WiCM Interest Group has been incredibly enriching. It’s a home for like-minded individuals coming together for a common goal: to support, educate, and mentor one another. I've gained invaluable connections and insights, which have not only broadened my professional horizons but also provided a supportive network for personal growth. The collaborative environment has empowered me to enhance my leadership skills, share my knowledge, and learn from others—making the journey both transformative and rewarding.
How has being in an Interest Group benefited your experience as a CHEST member?
Being part of an Interest Group has greatly enriched my experience as a CHEST member by deepening my connections with peers and expanding the ways we engage with each other. It’s provided a platform to connect with like-minded professionals, share insights, and foster mentorship opportunities. This collaborative environment not only strengthens our network but also supports ongoing professional and personal growth through shared educational initiatives and innovative projects.
Who or what has inspired you in your journey in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine?
Training with exceptional pulmonary hypertension mentors—who later became close friends—has profoundly enriched my journey. Their guidance laid the foundation for my growth, while our evolving relationship fostered a vibrant, collaborative community. This network of experts and peers not only deepened my understanding of pulmonary hypertension but also created lasting bonds that continuously support innovation, research, and improved patient care.
What activities or hobbies do you enjoy that might surprise your colleagues?
One hobby that often surprises my colleagues is my passion for hands-on creativity—specifically, decorating, fixing, and repairs. I love transforming spaces.
